Leg 38 started off with a big of a rain storm as we headed to Gallup, NM with a quick side venture to the Petrified Forest our 15th National Park visit. After a quick lunch in Holbrook, AZ we turned off I40 and took 180 to the South end of the park. It took us about 2 1/2 hours to traverse the length of the park with a few stops along the way to see what needed seen before we got back on I40 to Gallup. We are staying at the USA RV Park on historic Route 66. Seems to be a lot of balloon aficionados here for the Albuquerque Balloon race this coming weekend. Apparently, there is not an RV lot within 100 miles of that city. We head there Wednesday and am glad I booked our slot over a year ago. I wondered why it was so expensive-now I know.
