As planned, we left the Mesa Verde area and headed North this morning on Hwy 145. The drive up was spectacular to say the least. Some RV bloggers recommend the route North through Durango/Silverton on Hwy550 but we found this route to be exceptional. I would like to go through there at some point in the future though. Our route peaked at about 10100 feet North of Ames near Telluride. The road was very good an most of the rises were gradual.
We got to our site about 1300 hrs, unhooked and set off to Black River Canyon at Gunnison National Park. The park is only about 12 miles from our site. We did the fast version of a park visit driving the southern rim and taking a few snapshots along the way. We also, descended to the river to say we did and were back at camp at 1700 hrs. Cooking pork chops in tonight. Tomorrow we are off to Silt for another overnighter.
